As I browsed through my Facebook feed this evening I saw a post on genetics. The post stated that previous scientific research on genetics is completely out dated. We think, because science has said, that our genes make up our health. If you are genetically prone to cardiovascular disease you will have it. New science states that you have those genes but 99% aren’t active. In fact you can prevent them from becoming active. To prevent them from activating you just have to control the chemicals that are released into your body.
So how do we do that?
Apparently the chemicals are controlled by two emotions:fear and trust.
The article states it like this, “A brain perceiving trust creates a culture medium that grows, develops, has a healthy and controlled immune response, and creates a healthy body.”
“A fearful brain goes into a stress response and releases stress hormones and inflammatory chemicals, stops cells from growing and results in a contracted body —and disease results.”
This had me thinking about fear. How fear impacts me: emotionally, physically and apparently genetically. The bible states so many times not to be afraid. It would of course be foolish to trust in earthly things. However, God is stead fast and our salvation is permanent. If we can learn to put our trust in God and his plan for us we will be healthier.
When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me? -Psalms 56:3-4
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. -Jeremiah 29:11
Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust, who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after a lie! -Psalms 40:4
