One of my favorite breeds is the Wyandotte I grew up with several of these in my parents flock. One Columbian rooster we had would sit in your lap for hours and let you pet him. They are a nice docile chicken and great to have around children. They serve as a dual purpose breed so they are used as a meat chicken or an egg layer. Another thing that drew me to them is they come in a rainbow of colors.
Fun facts about the Wyandotte:
They are an american bred chicken
They lay tan to brown eggs
The first examples appeared in the 1870’s
They are known to be good brooders and parents
They come in 17 different colors
They can lay from 200-240 eggs in a year
They grow to about 6 pounds
Their excess of fluffy feathers can prevent breeding and can make them get a poopy butt.
*Only one of our Wyandottes gets poopy butt and that is “White Chicken” she is always a mess, but very friendly.
