Spring time romance is in the air! Husband must have felt it because he showed me some love and bought me 1500 ladybugs. Husbands out there, here is some love advice. If your wife is an organic gardener and it’s spring you might want to surprise her with some lovely ladybugs…and maybe a few packets of seeds.
Lady bugs are a natural pesticide! They are bug killers and like to snack on the eggs of other bugs. One site says that they can eat up to 50 aphids a day! I recently learned that ladybugs come in several colors! Our ladybugs are red but they come in pink, yellow, orange and black!
Turns out their larva aren’t as cute as the adults. If you see this in your garden don’t kill it…it’s a baby ladybug (although kinda creepy looking). Photo credit South Texas Gardener.
The directions said to release them at dusk so we did. I didn’t get pictures due to the lighting but the next morning I had a great time taking pictures of all the lovely ladies! There were so many I was able to put them all over our property. All my plants are enjoying the beautiful little army.
